Our Approach

Congratulations!

So, either you've made the decision to move to London or you're thinking about it long and hard... it's exciting times!

There are a bunch of things you should consider before you move, and even more things you need to do once you get here. Our Pre-Arrival and Post-Arrival pages will spell out pretty much everything you need to know including:

  • Getting your visa
  • Getting your National Insurance Number
  • Registering with a doctor
  • Getting a bank account
  • Finding a flat
  • Bringing money across
  • Getting a job
  • Getting a SIM card
  • What to bring with you from home
  • When's the best time to come over?
  • How much should you save before you come over (answer: as much as you can!)
  • Where to meet new people
  • Tips & Traps that we've all fallen into after moving across

Moving to London is a massive step. Naturally there are a lot of questions that come with the move and it's always nice to have someone to bounce things off, just so you can make sure you understand. If you want to chat with other Aussies and hear about their experiences, do be sure to join our Facebook group and don't be afraid to speak up.

London can be expensive, lonely and all consuming at times... but it can also be vibrant, multi-cultural, full of life and so much fun. London is a magical place where you can do ANYTHING you think of. Drink coffee in an old Victorian toilet? Yep. Spend a night drinking and dining in the Zoo? You got it. Sniff Amy Winehouse's poo? Well... yeah, if you really want to, you genuinely can...

We know it can be daunting moving across, but honestly you will not regret it. Hopefully our guide will make it that little bit easier to settle in. We also regularly run events which help you make the most of the summer and power through the winter!

We've spoken to a lot of Aussies over the years and most tend to hold the same view. It takes about a year to feel truly settled in London, by that stage you've gone through all the seasons, you've gone through the highs and lows of missing home and loving London. Unfortunately for most people that's when you've only got a year left of your visa and you need to start either looking at sponsorship or madly planning the London bucket list!

All in all, living in London is a tremendous experience. We would highly recommend you give it a go. Worst case scenario you can always just jump on a plane and go home... but we don't think you will 😉
